Cannabidiol (CBD) has some therapeutic applications for kids. It may help prevent seizures and reduce anxiety. However, it is not advisable for children to consume CBD products unless a doctor recommends it.

CBD is a substance that derives from the cannabis plant. It is not responsible for the “high” that many people may associate with cannabis. Instead, that is largely due to another chemical in cannabis known as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

CBD may possess some medicinal properties. Ongoing research is investigating these possible therapeutic qualities, with some drugs containing CBD already available to treat certain conditions. Additionally, a growing number of products also contain CBD.However, although CBD may have many possible benefits, parents or caregivers should not give CBD to children. More research is necessary to understand the possible effects of the substance on children. Moreover, outside of the clinical environment, CBD products do not undergo regulation by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so CBD-based foods and drinks may contain other harmful substances. This is because, at present, researchers do not fully understand the potential long-term effects of CBD and how it may affect them.
