A historic mansion in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood recently sold for $1 million.
Nicknamed the Marijuana Mansion, the 5,716-square-foot property at 1244 N. Grant St. has 13 bedrooms and has been an event venue for the last four years.
Its previous owner Lisa Leder completed approximately $250,000 in renovations to the property in early 2000 and operated an event venue and interactive museum called Marijuana Mansion from the home. Leder described the business as a “small version of Meow Wolf,” she previously told the Denver Business Journal.
The new owner, an LLC associated with John Hotchkiss, a Denver radiologist and developer, bought the house property but did not purchase the dispensary business from Leder.
“It’s rare to see such a majestic looking, historic mansion smack dab in the middle of the city,” listing agent Cory Gross, first vice president of investments at Marcus & Millichap’s Denver office, said in a statement. “As a result, we received interest on it from all around the country but [I] am glad it ultimately sold to a local buyer looking to preserve it. It was a perfect fit for the buyer’s portfolio and I’m excited to see what the buyer has in store for it in the future.” View Slideshow 10 photos The Marijuana Mansion, located at 1244 Grant St.
Future plans for the property are unknown.
The property, historically known as the Creswell Mansion, was originally listed for $2.3 million last August . The list price included a 2,311-square-foot former carriage house, at 1250 N. Grant St., currently home to Green Dragon Cannabis Co. Dispensary.
The carriage house dispensary property is still owned by Leder. She purchased both properties in September 2019 for $2.1 million, records show – paying $903,000 for 1250 N. Grant St. and $1.197 million for 1244 N. Grant St.
The mansion was built in 1890 for the family of Joseph Creswell, former president of the Colorado Marble and Mining Company and Denver businessman. The building was designed by local architect John J. Huddart, known for designing courthouses in Colorado as well as surrounding states, according to History Colorado. The “Marijuana Mansion” nickname came from its use as […]
