On the March 12 episode of her Goop podcast, Paltrow, 52, interviewed friend and author Amy Griffin about her new memoir The Tell (out now from The Dial Press), which has just been announced as the March 2025 pick for Oprah’s Book Club .
Griffin’s memoir details how, two decades ago, buried sexual assault trauma began to resurface for the high-powered investor, who has helped boost brands like Spanx, Goop, Bumble and Hello Sunshine. After taking MDMA, she was able to confront repressed memories of being sexually assaulted by a middle school teacher.
On the podcast, the author revealed how Paltrow’s own positive experiences with MDMA led her to try psychedelic-assisted therapy herself.

"I looked over at you, and I said… what’s different about you?" Griffin recounts. "There was this peace about you. There was this calmness, and I always thought of you as a calm person anyway, but I think that there was this this knowing, this calmness. There was just a shift because I hadn’t seen you in in several months. And you said ‘I’ve just had some experiences. I’ve really been going inward and and doing some work.’"

Paltrow then revealed how MDMA helped improve upon her relationship with Danner, 82.
"That was when I told you that I had done the therapeutic MDMA with the therapist… and I remember because you also said, ‘Oh, your relationship with your mom is so gentle.’ Remember, you’re like, ‘What, what shifted?
