Home Base has completed the expansion of its National Center of Excellence, aiming to improve care for veterans with PTSD and brain injuries.
"Synchronizing clinical research, hand in glove, with clinical care: that’s a new model that we’re able to do with this space we now have," said Brigadier General Jack Hammond, CEO of Home Base .
The expansion, which took about a year to complete, was made possible through significant generosity and aims to reduce the number of veteran suicides from about 40 a day to zero.
"We’re in a race against time; we’re going to lose 40 more tomorrow, and 40 more the day after that, and 40 the day after that," Hammond said. "If we don’t do this, we lose brothers and sisters who faithfully served this nation. They deserve the best."
The new space includes advanced therapy options, such as psychedelic treatment and state-of-the-art equipment to assist those with brain injuries. The state-of-the-art equipment offers a completely immersive approach to brain injury therapy.
Army veteran Michelle Ekoniak, who now works with service members, shared her personal experience.
