In a sweeping recall operation, Diamond Shruumz-brand magic mushroom-infused candies have been recalled after reports of severe illnesses in consumers across the United States. The recall encompasses all flavors of the brand’s product lines, which include microdosing chocolate bars, infused cones, and both micro-dose and mega-dose/extreme gummies. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), this action was necessitated by 39 reported cases of illness spanning 20 states, with at least one case originating in Nevada. Hospitalizations have been a consequence for 23 of those afflicted, highlighting the severity of the situation.

The affected company, Prophet Premium Blends, LLC, has indicated that muscimol, a compound found in certain mushroom species, could be the chemical at the heart of these adverse reactions. Among the worrying array of symptoms reported are seizures, respiratory failure, and altered levels of consciousness. Sufferers have also experienced hallucinations, uncontrolled movements, and various cardiovascular complications such as abnormal heart rates and fluctuations in blood pressure, according to News 3 Las Vegas.

Notably, the Diamond Shruumz brand has marketed their products as microdosing solutions – aimed at imparting benefits to creativity, mood, and focus without inducing full psychedelic experiences.

Testing of the recalled products has identified the presence of several psychoactive substances in two flavors of Diamond Shruumz chocolate bars. These include 4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (also known as 4-acetoxy-DMT or psilacetin), among others. The FDA’s official advisory emphasizes the ongoing nature of the investigation and urges consumers to dispose of any Diamond Shruumz-brand products they may have purchased. Retailers have been advised against the sale or distribution of these products until further guidance is issued.

This recall stands as a serious reminder of the potential health risks associated with consuming unregulated or improperly tested psychoactive substances. With investigations ongoing and updates promised as new information becomes […]
