BOULDER, CO – AUGUST 20, 2018 Naropa University is a private liberal arts college in Boulder, At Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, students can pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree with a minor in psychedelics studies. A new grant will help them achieve that goal.

On Tuesday, Naropa University announced a $1.5 million grant in partnership with Unlikely Collaborators . The scholarship provides financial support for undergraduate students interested in pursuing the Psychedelic Studies Minor.

“At Naropa, we’re committed to preparing students to be thoughtful, informed, and responsible stewards in the rapidly evolving field of psychedelic studies. Since our founding, psychedelic visionaries like Ram Dass ( Richard Alpert ) and Dr. Stanislav Grof have helped shape a learning environment rooted in exploration, transformation, and the study of consciousness,” Naropa University President Charles G. Lief told Forbes .

Students are required to take one required course, choose nine elective credits, and complete planned coursework toward their degree. Classes cover topics such as herbal medicine, transpersonal psychology, and psychedelic-assisted therapy . Amid the growing psychedelics movement in therapy, these courses prepare students for the future.

“Over the past several years, the scientific community has shown the significant healing impact that psychedelic or natural medicines can have on several difficult-to-treat mental health challenges,” Lief said. "As the field grows, there is a great need for well-trained staff to support clinical practitioners. This grant expands access to our undergraduate Psychedelic Studies Minor, integrating rigorous academic inquiry with contemplative practices and studying mind-body integration. By fostering a deep understanding of psychedelics’ therapeutic, cultural, and ecological dimensions, we empower students to engage ethically, compassionately, and impactfully in this field."
