The event focused on healthcare enrollment, women’s health, suicide prevention, and toxic exposure screening.
Several local politicians and candidates were present to listen to veterans’ concerns. Among the attendees was Walt Viglienzone, a Vietnam veteran and Navy and Coast Guard retiree, who explained his reasons for attending.
"Primarily for my wife, because one of her concerns when we get older… When you die, you have these benefits, but what am I going to do? Where’s the paperwork?" Viglienzone said. "I also do this at the Navy, since I’m retired, since I’m a double dipper in that regard, I get to experience both. I’m able to get my meds from over there instead of here."
During the event, 125 claims were processed, 30 toxic exposures were identified, 26 VA ID cards were issued, and 43 people enrolled for benefits.
