The U.S. Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ) recalled 28 products in April 2024, ranging from foods to supplements to animal feed.
The FDA regularly tests and reviews products to ensure they meet safety standards. Sometimes, products can fall short of FDA guidelines and can pose a safety risk to the public.
In April, nine recalls were made due to allergy contamination , which can happen when a product has come into contact with one of the nine major allergens during production, or when a product has been labeled incorrectly. A further six products were recalled due to being contaminated with bacteria or viruses that can cause illness, such as Salmonella, E. coli and Listeria.
Other reasons for recalls in April include presence of toxic plants, being unsterile and not including ingredients listed on the packaging. A sign for the Food and Drug Administration is seen outside of the headquarters on July 20, 2020 in White Oak, Maryland.
