DaySavers , a manufacturer of pre-rolled cones and rolling paper , announced a groundbreaking partnership with the Cannabis Research Coalition and The Network of Applied Pharmacognosy (NAP) to launch a unique study: The Science of Smokeability (SOS).
And they’re looking to pay people to smoke pre-rolls for science.
The initiative, which will span two years, intends to look at the nuances of how cannabis cultivation and processing influence the final product’s quality, DaySavers announced in a Monday press release. Long Overdue
DaySavers and its partners intend to fill the knowledge gap in cannabis research , which has been hindered by regulatory barriers.
"Through this research, we will be shedding light on some major unknowns in the cannabis industry," said Harrison Bard , CEO and co-founder of DaySavers and Custom Cones USA. “This type of research exists and has been proven to be extremely important in the tobacco industry, so we are excited to pave the way for a safer and more enjoyable future for the cannabis industry.”
Allison Justice , Ph.D. and founder of the Cannabis Research Coalition concurred. “This partnership highlights the pivotal importance of industry-wide collaboration and underscores the significance of research initiatives for shaping the future of the cannabis sector.” What’s It All About?
The SOS project will conduct a series of scientific experiments that analyze various cultivation and processing metrics. These experiments seek to determine which factors contribute to a more enjoyable and less harmful smoking experience. At the moment, many cultivators focus primarily on maximizing yield and THC levels, often leading to unrealistic expectations in some markets. However, the SOS study seeks to uncover whether these factors truly correlate with a better consumer experience.
Participants will play a crucial role by providing feedback on their smoking experiences. In certain phases, pre-rolls will be distributed to selected individuals who will then complete surveys comparing different samples. This qualitative data will help researchers understand the subjective aspects of smokeability that cannot be captured through laboratory analysis alone.
