When the Fitzsimons army based closed in 1995 the entire perimeter area surrounding the base was really a deteriorated area. Occupied by shanty hotels, streetwalkers, drug dealers, whites, blacks and Latinos living in the area because it offered cheap rent.
Mayor Tauer and the Aurora city council decided to “clean house” with No citizen vote, no public community impute, no alternative use considerations, no independent consultant analysis. With a couple of phone calls, no strategic vision decided to move the University of Colorado campus to the area with the free lollipop of 227 acres of land offered at no cost by the Federal government. (Five years later the old Colorado University hospital site on 9th avenue and Colorado Blvd is still a wasteland).With the University of Colorado spending 30 million dollars on upkeep?
Out went the hotels..so what if there’s homeless. level the land.(I personally witnessed the boarding up of the heaven on earth hotel and the demolition of the Dutch mill trailer park, hookers moved over to the Yosemite street Denver side of Colfax, gone were the whites, blacks and Latinos….no place to live… move on bro. That was 1995 and the subsequent years. Back then mayor Tauer and the city of Aurora promised jobs and improving the area. So here it is 15 years later…with one development on the CU Anschutz medical campus perimeter Fitzsimons village financed by the Fitzsimons redevelopment authority (FRA) other wise the Fitzsimons boundary area would be empty dirt, not generating any tax base for the greedy City of Aurora. This is progress. One thing about history you can clearly see it in the rear view mirror regardless of what any politician or city official states otherwise.
So what happened to all those Latinos who were promised jobs by mayor Tauer? Did they go back to Mexico? No they moved to downtown Aurora where they own, rent and occupy the area. It’s a Latino town heavily concentrated with Latinos. A real problem so the city of aurora renamed the district to the Aurora arts district. Spent 40 million dollars building apartments and built a black library in the middle of Mexico and named it Martin Luther King library.
So after all Ed Tauer’s rhetoric now the city of Aurora has a compounded problem Latino day laborers on Dayton street, surrounding business complaining stating their business is off by 25%, and an entrenched Latino problem with no solution after 15 years of the city of Aurora’s failed redevelopment plans. Its real and its a problem. And where is the city council woman for this district? Melissa Miller is her name and according to the city she does a good job? Now on the table since there are no answers concerning the CU Anschutz Latino problem, form a panel consisting of local businesses, Latino day laborers, and the city of Aurora to find a solution to these unsightly Aurora day laborers. really? Do you think that is going to realistically happen? We already have 15 years on the books of documented failed city of Aurora’s actions.
Now the Anschutz medical campus blog is going to start highlighting several items concerning this current situation and nobody is going to be happy. That’s one thing about the first amendment your right to speak. That’s the purpose behind the Anschutz Medical Campus blog.
With a 15 year track record this entire situation was handled incorrectly by the city of Aurora Colorado and the now ousted mayor Tauer and Aurora city council. That is obvious as the problem just moved several miles away and got bigger and more entrenched.
- All the Latino day laborers should wear signs and start picketing the CU Anschutz Medical Campus (Constantly moving so there is no trespassing eliminate Aurora police tactics) Picket all around where the visitors come in, around the perimeter of the CU Anschutz campus, UP AND DOWN THE SIDEWALKS WANT TO SEE ACTION REAL FAST NO MEETINGS HERE.
- THE CITY OF AURORA SHOULD COORDINATE WITH ALL OF THE BILLION DOLLAR CONSTRUCTION ON THE CU ANSCHUTZ MEDICAL CAMPUS..WORK TICKETS SHOULD BE GIVEN TO WORKERS, set up free telephone phoneline, a Latino coalition should be selected and brought in to handle the organization. Where is the 10% minority workers with 2 billion construction on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus? Who are the ground people? The laundry personal? The CU Anschutz janitors? Unskilled construction laborers? CU Fitzsimons golf course?
- Education of the entrenched Latinos really? No Melissa miller is the wrong representative you need a sexy Latina Mujer to talk to Latino workers and they will listen quickly…with free breakfast burritos and coffee and their fair share of CU Anschutz employment opportunities which have been missing for the last 6 years. Latinos will never be incorporated into the CU Anschutz medical campus. As local residents they should have first priority at unskilled labor employment. Another failed Aurora program hurting the local community.
- No meetings, No riots, no public harassment, no police. just supply work tickets with burritos and coffee and the problem will correct itself. Denver did this over 10 yrs ago however the arrogant city of Aurora, Colorado has all the answers and marches to a different drummer, adversely effecting the community.
This is why the CU Anschutz Medical Campus and the city of Aurora is a designated failure. In strategic planning, infrastructure, financing, and public relations a failure in all phases outlined above.
Now to take it to the next level the CU Anschutz Medical Campus is really a microcosm of the problems that are on a large scale across the entire United States and the Anschutz Medical Campus blog is going to outline the problem right here.
There are fifty million plus Latinos living in the US averaging 3 kids per family, the largest youngest minority in the US. The Latino population will surpass all other ethic races in the near future. 2012 is an election year. And not this election cycle But in 2016 and every subsequent election cycle will be FLAT OUT DECIDED BY THE LATINO POPULATION VOTE.
AND WITH THE VETERANS HOSPITAL COMING TO THE CU ANSCHUTZ MEDICAL CAMPUS IN 2015
YOU WILL NEVER SEE A WAR STARTED LIKE GEORGE W BUSH DID OVER OIL AND A FAILED ENERGY POLICY BECAUSE ALL POLITICIANS WILL BE THROWN OUT OF OFFICE EVERY 2 YEARS BY THE VOTING LATINO POPULATION.
THE NATIONAL FOCUS WILL SHIFT TO DOMESTIC POLICY. food stamps, Healthcare, jobs, no longer will the Koch brothers, big oil, or the Jews use their financial strength or legislation influence for controlling future elections. No longer will you have a national election decided by less than 300 Florida votes and the Secretary of State allowing all the political theater, the supreme court deciding a national election with the sitting Supreme court judge appointed by Bush senior. You will see politicians thrown out of office every 2 years.
We have already witnessed the power of the Latino population on national display. The million person Latino march. With no arrests, no drunk and disorderly behavior, no riots, no problems and America just blew off this incident this entire march was conceived, and organized by the self appointed Latino leaders…..a taste of what is to come to future America..
In the civil war era you had too many blacks (slaves) vs whites so a law was passed 5 black votes equals one white vote. This leveled the playing field. No more, not today numbers count. No longer will 12 million Jews that control over half of Americas wealth be relevant. They will all fall by the way side. No longer will the Koch brother prepare blank legislation and have it ready for legislators to use at their convenience. You will not hear the GOP led by Carl Rove state there will be block food stamp grants to the states. Entitlements are getting too high.
The day is rapidly approaching and you won’t read anything about it anywhere as the truth is too ugly to swallow. And it will take another 4 years for the Latinos to self organize and as usual the Anschutz Medical Campus blog states the compelling truth however distasteful it may be. The truth cannot be denied and we will see the legitimate election of a Latino president in the United States in our lifetime.
