Martin Cessford’s hemp farm spans five hectares, with plants standing at more than 6ft-high – yet its exact location in Angus remains a secret.

That’s because hemp is a variety of cannabis, and despite containing less than 0.2% of THC – the psycho-active constituent of marijuana – misinformation remains a problem.

“Other farmers who have grown it have had trouble with people coming in who have ravaged the crops,” Martin said.

A handful of farmers like Martin have been growing hemp in Scotland for the past four years as part of a trial.

Advocates say that taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the crop could have benefits for the environment, economy, and our health.
