Lysergic acid diethylamide, also known as LSD or acid, is a potent hallucinogenic drug that can intensify thoughts and sensory perceptions. At higher doses it can sometimes induce visual or auditory hallucinations.

It’s been explored as an avenue for treatment of depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions in the past and more recently, with promising results, but those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) shouldn’t hold their collective breath.

Researchers from the University Hospital of Basel in Switzerland microdosed 53 people with ADHD either with LSD or a placebo to see if it could help reduce symptoms.

But while participants did experience a reduction in symptoms, there was no difference in that reduction between placebo and LSD groups.

Published in JAMA Psychiatry, the research suggests dropping even just a little bit of acid to help manage the neurodevelopmental condition will not be helpful.
